International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21st to raise awareness about the many benefits of practicing yoga. Yoga, which originated in ancient India, is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that promotes harmony between the body and mind.
The idea of observing an International Day of Yoga was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. As a result, the United Nations declared June 21st as International Yoga Day starting from 2015. The date was chosen because it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizing light, health, and well-being.
