World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th and is one of the most important days for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. It was established by the United Nations in 1972, during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

Each year, World Environment Day focuses on a specific theme to highlight a pressing environmental issue, such as climate change, plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, or sustainable living. A different country hosts the global celebrations each year, helping to bring local environmental issues to international attention.

The day is marked by various activities across the world, including tree planting drives, clean-up campaigns, awareness rallies, seminars, exhibitions, and school and college programs. It serves as a platform for individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to come together and promote eco-friendly practices.

🌱 Purpose of World Environment Day

  • To raise awareness about environmental issues.
  • To promote sustainable development and responsible use of natural resources.
  • To inspire people to take action in their daily lives for the betterment of the planet.
  • To encourage policy change and collective global efforts.
